Lysine is an essential amino acid that has a role in protein synthesis. An essential amino acid is one which cannot be produced by the body, but rather must be supplemented where required.

As an important building block for protein in the body, Lysine may assist with building muscle (along with correct diet and exercise), as well as assist with the production of collagen and elastin in bone matrix, skin, tendons, and articular cartilage.

Many equine owners will choose to supplement their horse’s feed with Lysine, particularly when their diet is high in roughage to help complete the amino acid profile. It is not unusual for many different types of hay to have low levels of Lysine.

Lysine may also assist in supporting the immune system.

Dosage:

10g-20g per day/500kg horse, mixed into feed. Feed towards lower end if for maintenance/horse not in work, feed towards upper end if for specific issue/horse in work.
