Psyllium is often added to equine feeds as a food-fibre bulking agent to stimulate gastrointestinal activity. 

Psyllium is high in fibre and mucilage and when combined with water it swells to many times its original size, becoming slimy and gelatinous. 

May be suitable to help avoid the accumulation of sand in a horse’s digestive tract. 

Periodic addition of psyllium to the feed is practiced in some sandy soil areas.

It is vital that horses have access to plenty of fresh water.

Cautions 

  • Do not feed to a horse whose gut is impacted
  • Not recommended to feed continually 
  • Consult your vet before administering oral drugs whilst feeding psyllium as in some cases it can reduce the absorption rate of the drug

Feeding Guidelines

Up to 80g per 100kg body weight, 3-5 days per month.

Psyllium Husk 1kg

Great to incorporate in our dogs meals and their homemade treats. Firms up their stools and help one of our dogs who has glad issues.

Life saver!

I have been feeding psyllium husk to my horses on a monthly rotation for 5 days consecutive for a few years now. It has helped my pony who suffers from sand build up remove the sand and prevent his runny poohs. Making it so much easier in turn to present him for his show pony events. Love it and will use it as a monthly maintenance for all my horses.
